iAd: How to opt out of interest-based ads

"Apple and its partners use cookies and other technologies in mobile advertising services to control the number of times you see a given ad, deliver ads that relate to your interests, and measure the effectiveness of ad campaigns. If you do not want to receive ads with this level of relevance on your mobile device, you can opt out by accessing the following link on your iOS 4 mobile device: http://oo.apple.com. The message "You have successfully opted out" will appear and you will be automatically opted out of interest-based ads.

iPhone OS 4.0 arrives

Apple has released iPhone OS 4 for the iPhone 3, iPhone 3GS & third generation iPod touch devices.

The latest OS includes a security update that addresses dozens and dozens of security issues in components of the OS, including Application Sandbox, CFNetwork, ImageIO, LibSystem, libxml, Passcode Lock, Safari, Settings and WebKit.

Security Update 2010-004, Mac OS X v10.6.4 now available

Apple today has released Mac OS X 10.6.4 & Security Update 2010-004. Security Update 2010-004 patches a number of critical security vulnerabilities in Mac OS X 10.5.8 & 10.6. Components updated include CUPS, DesktopServices, Flash Player plug-in, Folder Manager, Help Viewer, iChat, ImageIO, Kerberos, libcurl, Network Authorization, Open Directory, Printer Setup, Printing, Ruby, SMB File Server, SquirrelMail, and Apple's built-in Wiki Server.

The security updates included in Security Update 2010-004 are rolled into Mac OS X 10.6.4. Other improvements Snow Leopard were included, as well.

Apple releases redesigned Mac mini

Apple today announced the release of a redesigned aluminum bodied Mac mini. The new mini sports beefed-up graphics, an HDMI port and SD card slot along with a model that is available with Snow Leopard Server pre-installed.

Apple announces iPhone 4

As expected, Steve Jobs announced iPhone 4 during Apple's annual developers conference in San Francisco. Taking the stage at WWDC2010, Jobs demonstrated the redesigned iPhone - a device with a very high quality display, front and rear facing cameras - the front facing for video conferencing and the rear facing 5 megapixel for photos and HD video recording. The phone will run the next incarnation of the iPhone OS, iOS4, and is to be released on June 24 through AT&T.

Mac OS X, Linux at Google. No more Windows.

Google is phasing out Windows from their corporate IT; this due in part to Windows propensity for security issues, and a breach by Chinese hackers. More at tuaw.com. Even more at FT.com.

Security Update 2010-003 released

Barely two weeks after releasing Security Update 2010-002, Apple has released a small security update that addresses a single critical vulnerability in Apple Type Service (ATS). According to Apple, Security Update 2010-003 patches ATS, addressing the following: "An unchecked index issue exists in Apple Type Services' handling of embedded fonts. Viewing or downloading a document containing a maliciously crafted embedded font may lead to arbitrary code execution." Because of the nature of this issue, installation of Security Update 2010-003 is highly recommended.

The update is available for Mac OS X v10.5.8, Mac OS X Server v10.5.8, Mac OS X v10.6.3, Mac OS X Server v10.6.3

iPhone OS 4.0 announced

Steve Jobs took the stage to describe the impending release of iPhone OS 4.0 - an OS that will finally bring multitasking and other improvements to the later generation of the iPhone and iPod touch. Additional details can be found online at Apple's iPhone OS 4.0 Preview page.

Safari 4.0.4 released for Mac OS X 10.6, Windows


Apple has released Safari 4.0.4 - a security update for users of the browser on Mac OS X 10.5.8, 10.6.x & Windows XP/Vista. The update is available from Apple, and due to the number and severity of the security vulnerabilties addressed, updating is highly recommended.

Mac OS X 10.6.3, Security Update 2010-002 released

Apple today has released Mac OS X 10.6.3 alongside Security Update 2010-002. The security update addresses an enormous number of vulnerabilities in components of Mac OS X 10.5.8 and Mac OS X 10.6.x.
