Apple announces release of Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard"

Apple today formally announced the impending release of Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard". The release, which will only run on Intel-based Mac systems, will be available starting August 28, 2009. Folks who've purchased a Mac since June 8, 2009 qualify for discounted upgrade pricing!

Security Update 2009-004 fixes DNS vulnerability

Apple today released Security Update 2009-004 for Mac OS X 10.4.11 and Mac OS X 10.5.8. The update addresses a critical vulnerability in the BIND DNS software on both client and server versions of the OS. Since an active exploit of this issue has been seen 'in the wild', installation of this update is highly recommended.

Apple releases Safari 4.0.3

In an encouraging sign that Apple is getting serious about security issues in the Safari browser, Safari 4.0.3 was released today. The update addresses at least six different security issues in the software, which fixes concerns in both the Windows XP/Vista and Mac OS X versions of the browser.

Critical security bug in Adobe Reader, Acrobat & Flash Player

Adobe has disclosed a highly critical vulnerability exists in Adobe Reader 9, Acrobat and Flash Player. The vulnerability has the potential to allow remote attackers to gain control of a compromised system. According to the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures website, the "[u]nspecified vulnerability in Adobe Reader and Acrobat 9.x through 9.1.2, and Adobe Flash Player 9.x through 9.0.159.0 and 10.x through 10.0.22.87, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via (1) a crafted Flash application in a .pdf file or (2) a crafted .swf file, related to authplay.dll, as exploited in the wild in July 2009."

Safari 4.0.2 patches two security vulnerabilities

Apple today has released an update for their cross-platform browser Safari 4 that addresses two security concerns. The update is available for Mac OS X 10.4.11, Mac OS X 10.5.7, Windows XP and Vista and can be downloaded directly from Apple.

iPhone 3G S available today

The iPhone 3G S is available starting today. The new phone is said to be up to twice as fast as the previous iPhone 3G, has a built-in 3 megapixel autofocus camera that can be used as a video recording device in addition to taking still pictures.
